Dennis Belisle Resume/CV | Performances
The title of the piece, Saudade, is of Portuguese origin and, although an English translation of the word does not exist, is defined as a deep emotional state of nostalgic or profound melancholic longing for an absent something or someone that one loves. Moreover, it often carries a repressed knowledge that the object of longing might never return.
This title was ascribed to this quartet after the first movement was complete and my wife expressed these thoughts after hearing the piece.
Through some research, we stumbled upon this word and learned of its use as a recurring theme in Portuguese and Brazilian literature.
Saudade evokes a sense of loneliness and incompleteness.
All of the audio in the following clips, including foley (sound effects), was produced by Dennis Belisle. All video images are owned by their respective production companies and are NOT owned by Dennis Belisle.
